Fraudsters lure Ukrainians to fake Telegram bots from banks to steal funds. How to tell if it's a bot clone
The State Service for Special Communications reports on another fraudulent scheme and explains how it works so that Ukrainians can protect themselves from it.
The State Service for Special Communications reports on another fraudulent scheme and explains how it works so that Ukrainians can protect themselves from it.
Fraudsters are creating bots on Telegram that visually resemble official chatbots of banks and other institutions. They copy logos, descriptions, etc., reports the State Special Communications Service.
How does the scheme work?
Fraudsters use grammatical tricks in the names of banks and other institutions. They differ so minimally that users may not even notice the substitution.
They also use a fake verification badge . Thanks to a premium subscription to Telegram, scammers add stickers that mimic the official status of the account.
In order to lure people to a fake Telegram bot to apply, attackers send messages about monetary assistance and winnings .
Then they ask you to enter payment card details , bank codes, and passwords, which leads to the theft of funds from your accounts.
How to protect yourself?
The State Service for Special Communications advises giving preference to other channels of communication with banks and institutions: official website, phone number, mobile application.
If you need to use a chatbot, you should find a link to it on the official website or in the bank's app. You should also not apply for financial assistance through a chatbot.
We recently talked about another fraudulent scheme: attackers send an email purporting to be from Facebook support, threatening to block your account.
Fraudsters also send letters on behalf of the State Tax Service of Ukraine.
