By the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident, the National Museum of Chernobyl opened in Kyiv after major renovations. One of the main innovations of the institution was a new part of the exposition, which is entirely dedicated to the cult Ukrainian game series STALKER
As reported by OBOZ.UA, the large-scale renovation began in 2024 and turned out to be much more complex than the original project. During the preparation, specialists discovered emergency areas on the roof and the famous tower of the building that required immediate intervention.
Now part of the museum space is dedicated to the gaming universe GSC Game World. The walls of the new exhibition are covered with screenshots from different parts of STALKER, and a detailed chronology of the release of games in the series is also presented. Visitors can get acquainted with information about key characters, game artifacts and anomalies. Physical figures with mutants and stalkers attract special attention.
Along with the visual update, the museum presented a new exhibition, "Chernobyl: People and Meanings." It proposes a shift in focus from the image of a "dead zone" to a space of memory, resilience, and human dignity. The institution rejects outdated approaches to the perception of the tragedy, which were based on fear and stigmatization, and instead forms a new narrative of responsibility and experience that unites society.
The National Museum "Chernobyl" is a state research institution operating under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. It systematically researches the history of the disaster, its consequences, as well as the issues of the use of nuclear energy and radiation safety, transferring this knowledge to future generations through educational activities.
"STALKER 2 is closely related to war. For us, this project is a million times more than entertainment": GSC Game World executives spoke about the shooter's cultural mission
