In two years of existence, the Threads platform has almost caught up with its main competitor, X.
A year ago, Threads had around 175 million monthly users. Now, 400 million people use Threads every month. To catch up with its main competitor, Mark Zuckerberg's platform X, it needs to attract another 200 million people.
"We've come a long way in the last two years. It started as a silly idea to compete with Twitter, which has turned into a serious platform that promotes the open exchange of ideas," said Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri.
According to Mosseri, the app managed to attract 50 million monthly users in the last quarter alone.
According to Similarweb, Threads reached 115.1 million daily active users on iOS and Android in June, up 127.8% year-over-year compared to 132 million in X (down 15.2% year-over-year).
However, on the Internet, X remains far ahead: in June, the social network X had 145.8 million average daily visits worldwide, compared to 6.9 million for Threads.
Threads recently received several important updates, including a private messaging feature that allowed users to message each other directly in the apps without going to Instagram, and the ability to use a Facebook account to register for a Threads account.
