On Thursday, March 27, US President Donald Trump pardoned the three founders of the crypto investment exchange BitMEX (Bitcoin Mercantile Exchange), accused of violating the Bank Secrecy Act between 2015 and 2020.
Trump signed a pardon for BitMEX founders Benjamin Delo, Arthur Hayes and Samuel Reed, who pleaded guilty in 2022 to violating the Bank Secrecy Act for failing to support anti-money laundering and Know Your Customer programs, Reuters writes, citing an email message.

The pardon was granted on Thursday, but was not immediately made public. It was confirmed by a White House spokesman on Friday. BitMEX also noted that former employee Gregory Dwyer and the organization that owns and operates the crypto exchange have been granted a full and unconditional pardon.

«This full and unconditional pardon from President Trump is a confirmation of our position, which we have always held — that BitMEX, my co-founders, and I should never have been charged with a criminal offense under an obscure, outdated law,» Benjamin Delo said, according to USAToday.

He is sure that the founders of the crypto exchange were condemned, for example, «to be sacrificed for political reasons and used to send inconsistent regulatory signals.»
Hayes posted a note on social media telling Trump «thank you.»
