The World Economic Forum has published its annual list of the most promising startups from 28 countries around the world. Two Ukrainian developments were immediately noted: voice startup Respeecher and quantum startup Haiqu, which for some reason was listed as a team from the United States.
Respeecher was founded eight years ago by Alexander Serdyuk, Dmitry Belevtsov, and Grant Riberstav. The startup became famous for reproducing the voices of Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker for the Star Wars series, and in 2023, for Viktor Vector for Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty. The actor who voiced the game's hero died in 2021.
Haiqu was founded by former Soft Serve top manager Mykola Maksymenko together with an American partner.
In the summer of 2023, Haiqu raised $4 million in its first pre-seed round of funding from US fund SOMA Capital, Ukrainian u.ventures, SID Venture Partners, Roosh Ventures, and private investors. The round was led by Toyota Ventures and California-based venture capital firm MaC Venture Capital.
Haiqu was later named one of the 11 most promising quantum startups in Europe.
The top 100 included California startup AstroForge, which plans to mine useful minerals from asteroids, despite the fact that the company's $3.5 million spacecraft lost contact with the command center in March of this year.
