KAI has launched an aircraft modeling laboratory, AVIA Lab, where students and schoolchildren will be able to create their own drones.
The National University "Kyiv Aviation Institute" in cooperation with the Ukrainian UAV manufacturer RPE "Athlon Avia" launched the AVIA Lab aviation modeling laboratory for students and schoolchildren. The youngest member of the group that has already started studying is 13 years old.
In the new educational engineering space, students and schoolchildren study aircraft models, make their own samples, and also create projects, practice flights, and hold competitions in the university hangar. The first batch has already trained over 60 students.
"Aeromodeling is the first step into the complex but extremely interesting world of engineering, aerodynamics, composite materials, electronics and control systems. Very often it all starts with passion, interest and a desire to do something with your own hands. And aeromodeling is an ideal environment for this. Here you can make mistakes, experiment, and invent new things," emphasizes the head of the R&D department of the Athlon Avia Research and Development Enterprise.
Recently, a second training group was launched in the laboratory. More than 30 students joined the stream — not only students of the Kyiv Aviation Institute, but also representatives of other universities and even schoolchildren who are interested in aircraft modeling. The youngest participant in the group is a 13-year-old 7th grade student.
"In the second stream, we intentionally left half of the places for other universities — we were joined by students from Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, Shevchenko Kyiv National University, and KSE. The training of strong aviation engineers begins with aerodynamics and gliders. Always," noted KAI President Ksenia Semenova.
In addition, preparations have begun for the next stage of the laboratory project: renovation work began last week in the KAI building. The space is planned to be equipped with modern equipment that will allow students to conduct full-fledged research and engineering work.
