A free course on open source intelligence (OSINT) has become available on Prometeus, which anyone can sign up for. What is included in the course program and how to enroll.

About the course

The course aims to increase the level of competence of civil society in the field of OSINT, strengthen its role in ensuring the effective work of public and state structures, and thus contribute to national information security. All materials used in the training are from open sources, as well as based on the experience of specialists involved in the course.

Course program

Module 1. OSINT — 9 lectures:

  • Open data in Ukraine. Registry managers
  • Overview of the capabilities of the YouControl system. Example of an investigation
  • About modern information intelligence. Areas of use
  • Other types of intelligence: SIGINT, WebINT, TechINT
  • Working with Russian registers. Legal entities
  • Financial Transaction Investigation
  • Supply chain investigation
  • Working with Russian registers. Individuals
  • What are the certifications in the field of OSINT?

Module 2. Cybersecurity — 8 lectures:

  • Threats and risks in the work of an investigator
  • Compartmentalization
  • Configuring devices for investigations
  • Browsers
  • Using a VPN to Protect Privacy
  • Storage of investigation results and protection against loss
  • Secure communication
  • Account protection

Module 3. SOCMINT and HUMINT — 8 lectures:

  • Where to start an OSINT investigation
  • How to search and store information
  • Information verification
  • Security when searching for information
  • Search for contacts and social networks
  • Social media analysis and identification of «red flags»
  • Analysis of a full-fledged case of searching for information about a person
  • HUMINT

Module 4. GeoINT and ImgINT — 4 lectures:

  • Geospatial intelligence capabilities
  • Calculating the time, place, and date of a photograph from shadows. Analysis of tools
  • Search for key objects in photos or videos
  • How nature helps in finding photography locations

Module 5. InfoSec and OpSec — 8 lectures:

  • Overview of basic information security concepts
  • Counter-OSINT photo and video verification. Recommendations for military and civilians
  • Basic principles of hybrid warfare
  • Information warfare
  • Information attacks and IPSO
  • Fact-checking
  • Countering disinformation
  • How opposition to IPSO turns into IPSO
