The official distributor of PlayStation and console games in Ukraine reported that there is no longer a large shortage of consoles, as there was at the launch of sales.
In an interview with the GameDev DOU portal, Serhiy Shevchenko, head of the console gaming division at ERC, said that there are approximately 300,000 active PlayStation 5 consoles in Ukraine. At the same time, it is difficult to determine exactly which regions the goods are being shipped to due to the large share of online sales, which are difficult to track by geography.
According to available information from physical stores, the main sales volumes are in Kyiv and large cities, in particular Dnipro, Odessa and Lviv. He also added that after the start of the full-scale invasion, the share of sales in the western regions of the country, where many people were forced to move, has significantly increased.
According to Shevchenko, there is no longer a significant shortage of consoles, as there was at the beginning of the generation. At the same time, there is sometimes a shortage of individual models. For example, the digital version of the console may be in short supply for a certain time. Exclusive limited-edition bundles are also available in limited quantities, such as a set with the Astro Bot game, which was sold at a special promotional price. Such offers usually sell out quickly, which makes them scarce. However, in general, those who want to buy a PlayStation today can easily find a console on sale.
Sony has previously announced price increases for its PlayStation 5 consoles in Europe, the UK, Australia and New Zealand. The company cited high inflation, a difficult economic situation and currency fluctuations as the reason for the decision. Following Sony, Microsoft's gaming division has raised prices for its consoles, games and peripherals.
