"Such situations are a reality in our profession." A recruiter denied a candidate an interview because he was blacklisted by her colleagues. What does the community think about this: a discussion with 300+ comments

«Each field has its own „HR communities“ where we exchange insider tips, share useful contacts, discuss news, and even tell negative cases with candidates. This is an important part of our work, because we need to be informed and know who we are dealing with. So, recently, I was reviewing colleagues' stories and suddenly came across a candidate with whom I planned to interview that same day. I reread the story, wrote to my colleague, and then other people who already had experience communicating with this candidate joined the conversation. After that, the decision was obvious: I refused the candidate, honestly explaining the situation so that everything was transparent,» shared Yulia.
She believes she did the right thing by saving time that she could have spent on a more worthy candidate. «In our profession, such situations are a reality. Candidates have the right to leave reviews about companies on DOU or write about it on LinkedIn, and recruiters have the right to share their experience communicating with candidates. We all build our reputations — both as recruiters and as candidates,» the specialist explained.
Yulia asked how the community feels about blacklists of candidates, and elicited hundreds of reactions. Here are the most interesting ones.
Graphic Designer Natalie Zabeida wonders: «What about 'we do not disclose your personal data' and all that?..».
Level Designer Olga Barvinok adds: «I’m not saying anything about the fact that if the recruiter simply didn’t like the person/didn’t get along/had a conflict/enter another human factor, then these guards won’t let you find a job if they want to and that recruiter takes the person somewhere.»
«Add me to that blacklist, please. Thank you,» asked Bohdan Honcharuk, Lead Flutter Developer.
Recruiter Viktoria Mirkevych is surprised: «Hmm. It’s terrible that there are such colleagues on the labor market…».
And Artem Pelevin, Android Developer, considers blacklists useful. «The tool is good, but don’t forget about two factors: other recruiters can lie and just want to harm a person, other recruiters can lie and just want to lure a person, or keep them in their company, and also lie about them. I’m not talking about the fact that someone might not be in the mood and they were rude to each other, but the recruiter has another tool to try to ruin someone’s life,» he noted.
«I’m sure I’ll disappoint someone, but there’s no single scary blacklist of candidates where all recruiters go to check a candidate and leave feedback about him not coming to the interview, swearing, or being late. Neither I nor my colleagues/friends who have been in recruiting for 5+ years know about such people. The author came across this review in some recruiting group, where most likely there is a small percentage of recruiters, most of whom won’t even pay attention to this review. But it’s worth noting that publishing subjective/controversial reviews in groups about candidates/recruiters/managers can cause a flurry of negativity towards the author himself and damage his reputation. Therefore, such reviews are usually left in the most trashy situations: fraud, deception, the most inadequate behavior. In general, the most an average recruiter can do is leave a comment in their company’s internal system about the candidate. And this comment will only be seen by recruiters of this company and the company will not be able to do anything further. Because this is done only to prevent repeated communication with the candidate if he behaves clearly not OK (rudeness, threats, fraud, etc.),» explains recruiter Yulia I.
The recruiter was 3 minutes late for the interview. The dissatisfied candidate said that he was not interested in further communication. Aitov residents are having a lively discussion
«Save your time and recruiters, please!» The recruiter said that she received a 39-page resume from a developer candidate. IT specialists claim that this is a good CV and joke
