“The second critical requirement even confused me.” The recruiter who was hiring the Project Manager made several atypical requirements from the customer: what are we talking about?
Project Manager Igor Taratayko encountered strange requirements for an offer from a recruiter. Previously, at least one of them could be closed at the employer’s expense.

«I thought this was the bottom, but they knocked from below. I thought that in 1.5 years of communicating with domestic recruiters I had seen everything, but it was like preparing for a crucial exam in understanding the bottom of the modern job search market,» the IT specialist noted .
He said that recently a recruiter from one of the Ukrainian companies approached him with an offer. «The offer was interesting, and the business trips were abroad. Yes, I have the opportunity to travel. But it turned out that, supposedly, the client of the Ukrainian company has a couple of critical requirements for the candidate. The first is the presence of PMP certification. And the second critical requirement even puzzled me — the presence of an open visa to the USA. And so I became interested, do many of our IT specialists have an open visa to the USA? Yes, once, when I worked in one of the large Ukrainian IT companies, they opened a visa to the USA for me. But the company opened this visa for me to carry out the company’s projects. And now what, the candidate has to take care of the visa himself?», the specialist said.
Other IT people react to Igor’s story.
HRM Victoria Mirkevych believes that there is nothing critical or terrible about such a requirement from the company. «Yes, companies really help with visas, some do not. And there are candidates with visas, I have met such people,» she says.
Stanislava Kaminska, Delivery & PMO Consultant, says that the employer market is now tight, so why not immediately look for a «ready» person? «PMP certification is now required by many companies. This is at least some kind of guarantee of quality and understanding that the candidate knows what it means to manage a budget, risks and changes. Regarding visas: many of those who can go on business trips are abroad, and their legal support can be significantly more complicated than it was in Ukraine. Therefore, so far everything sounds logical,» she noted.
CIO/CTO Georgy Cherenkov is surprised: «Well, they really want it, they are looking for it. But my question is purely rhetorical… A person who can leave, has a visa to the USA (well, I think not a tourist one, because the purpose is different, sits in Ukraine, and is looking for a job here, to go to the USA on a business trip. Three days in the forest, two days in the field, under shelling. Listen, in 2022 I saw a vacancy in «one of the popular drone companies», where they were looking for a person who had experience in building companies for the production of drones for either 10,000 or 20,000-30,000 per month. Back then, not everyone knew what FPV was, let alone 10,000 per month, and even three years of experience in this. That’s why they are looking for whoever they want. I already see a powerful manager who «Well, let’s still look for it, it’s «free». No, not free,» he noted.
Serhiy Bilofastov, Backend Engineer , believes that employers have the right to look for whoever they want. «But yes, they usually help with a visa if it is in the interests of the company,» he said.
«I think the company will probably look for more and more to spend less on a visa. But if they were really interested in you as a candidate, they would open a visa. On the contrary, when I was in the USA, I once applied for a job at an IT company from Ukraine that wanted someone from here to develop the business, but they didn’t like my experience. I don’t think you should be disappointed. You will definitely be valuable to „your“ company and a visa will not be an obstacle to hiring,» notes Director of Program Management Lyudmila Chernyakova .
Delivery Director Olga Kolpakova believes that the employer’s logic is clear: «I think it’s quite simple here, if you don’t have a visa, they may not give you one, but if it’s critical for that company, they won’t take the risk, which is why they’re looking for someone who already has a visa,» she noted.
«I feel like I’m already gluttonous.» A Frontend Lead with nine years of experience asked what the salary should be for a specialist of his level. Aitovo residents discuss
«No standards, except double standards!» The developer published a screenshot of a job posting stating that the Ukrainian company does not hire specialists in Ukraine. The community is looking for an explanation for such selectivity
