Last September, NJJ Holding, an investment company owned by French billionaire Xavier Niel, announced the acquisition of Lifecell and Datagroup-Volya. The deal was completed after all conditions precedent were met, including obtaining the necessary regulatory approvals.
It was reported that Niel wants to merge lifecell and Datagroup-Volia into one telecom company, which will be headed by Mykhailo Shelemba. 96,13% of Datagroup-Volia shares belonged to a fund managed by the American private investment company Horizon Capital under the leadership of Olena Kosharna. The remaining 3,87% is owned by Datagroup-Volia CEO Mykhailo Shelemba.
Forbes Ukraine reminds that Shelemba previously reported that the brand of the provider Volia will gradually merge with the brand of the operator lifecell. DVL is not commenting on the changes at the moment and notes that «rebranding is not happening».
Previously, DVL renamed the service «Volya TV» to lifecell TV. It also brands its PON boxes as lifecell from the beginning, and not as «Volya». «Lifecell is a strong brand, has more positive reputation than „Volya“», noted former member of the board of InAU Oleksandr Glushchenko. Volia is also not mentioned in the «Lifeset» service package, which DVL launched in early January.
According to Glushchenko’s forecasts, the DVL group will completely abandon the Volia brand by the end of 2025.
