Instead of a Team Lead, the development team had a Middle, who was fired for inefficiency. How a Senior Software Engineer caught a candidate in a lie
A candidate for the position of Team Lead of the Android development team successfully passed the CV screening stage and had a high chance of getting the role. However, his CV was seen by a Senior Software Engineer who previously worked at one of the mentioned companies.
A candidate for the position of Team Lead of the Android development team successfully passed the CV screening stage and had a high chance of getting the role. However, his CV was seen by a Senior Software Engineer who previously worked at one of the mentioned companies.
"Not so long ago, there was a story from a hiring process: I saw a candidate's CV and insisted on rejecting him, even though he passed the screening well. He was rejected, but if I hadn't made that decision, he had a high chance," Senior Software Engineer Ihor Malyovany wrote on LinkedIn.
According to him, the candidate's resume indicated that for the past 7 years he had only held Team Lead positions in various companies. The job at one of the companies coincided with the time when he also worked as a Senior Software Engineer there.
The resume stated that the candidate had been a Team Lead of a team of 13 Android developers for a year and a half. But in fact, he had worked as a Middle Specialist in a team of 5 developers for 2 months. Moreover, he was fired for inefficiency.
According to Maliovany, the moral of this situation is this:
If you're "decorating" your CV, do it creatively. "Seriously, what are the 13 developers in a startup?";
and it's better not to do it at all. "Better not to rush. There are few chances now anyway, regardless of the stickers. But what you leave behind on the road is with you forever."
"They don't hire me for a Junior position even with Middle-level experience and skills." The developer shared his bitter experience of finding a job. Some IT professionals advise him to simply lie on his resume.
