YouTube continues to expand its subscription model, and is now launching a test plan for two users in the same family.
YouTube has begun piloting a new subscription format in India, France, Hong Kong and Taiwan, Moneycontrol reported. The plan allows two users who are part of the same Google family group and live together to share Premium or Music Premium benefits at a discounted price.
As part of the test, YouTube Premium for two people in India costs 219 rupees (≈ $2.6) per month, and Music Premium costs 149 rupees (≈ $1.8) per month. Each user must be 13 years or older and have a Google Account.
In a statement, the company said that YouTube is experimenting with new ways to provide users with more flexibility and convenience. The new plan could be convenient for couples, friends, or roommates who don’t need the full family plan (299 rupees or ≈ $3.54).
This is part of Google’s broader strategy to increase subscription revenue amid a fight against ad blockers and price increases in 2024. In March 2025, YouTube said that the number of Premium and Music subscribers exceeded $125 million.
As a reminder, in February we wrote about how YouTube planned to split its Premium subscription into two versions. The cheaper version removes ads from videos and podcasts, but not from YT Music.
