Appeal to the Authorities

Preventing the war from becoming an everyday routine is an important task for those who are abroad now. Efficient way for the topic to remain in the agenda shall be writing or calling the representative of your district in Congress and asking them to increase the assistance for Ukraine. 

How to do it: 

1. Here you find tips on what and how to write 
2. Here are the letter templates to elected officials, the President, embassies of different countries in the US, etc.     
3. On the Congress website you can find your representative and view their contact information.
4. Drawing attention and making your demands known can also be done at rallies or actions in support of Ukraine. The events calendar in the US and worldwide can be found at stopputin.net.

Medical and Military Equipment 

There are many initiatives in the US to buy medical or military equipment and ship it to Ukraine. There are two ways to help: 

1. Donate to the organizations buying it
2. Place a self-order of the necessary equipment on Amazon (organizations often make lists of necessities) to the address indicated by the organization

List of organizations dealing with procurements and accepting donations:

Donation for Ukraine. On the organization’s website you can find the list of items necessary for the military, physicians and civilians.

Meest-America. This is a cargo company specializing in shipping to Eastern Europe which has switched to delivery of humanitarian aid to Ukraine. You can buy the goods from the list by yourself, send or take them to one of the warehouses, from where they will be shipped to Ukraine.

United Help Ukraine. Buying and shipping medical and humanitarian aid. You can come there to volunteer, help them sort and pack the equipment.

UA AID Center. Here is the list of necessary humanitarian and military aid and addresses in different states, where all required things can be sent to.  

Orthodox churches also collect humanitarian aid. For example, these are Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Holy Ascension in New-Jersey, St Andrew Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral in Washington, the last has a wish-list of necessary items. You can also contact the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in your region to find out whether any help is needed.

Accommodations

icanhelp.host — website with refugee shelters around the world, on which anyone can register to host Ukrainians. There are many options in the US.    

www.ukrainenow.org — people from the US can register and accommodate refugees here.

www.airbnb.org/help-ukraine — special section on the Airbnb website. 

www.ukrainetakeshelter.com — Harvard students’ website where everyone can host refugees from Ukraine.

Crowdfunding and funds

Donations are an effective way to support Ukraine in its struggle. We have made two long lists providing different funds and ways to help, from donations for the army to buying tickets to zoos to support their activities. All the information can be found here and here.

Small Ukrainian and Ukrainian-American NGOs: 

• RAZAM — a Ukrainian NGO in the US 
• QUA — LGBTQ Ukrainians in America. Assistance to Ukrainian LGBT refugees (you can choose either those who are already in the US, or those who are still in Ukraine). You can also fill out a questionnaire in which you can indicate what assistance you can provide in addition to money.
• Sunflower of Peace — here they receive aid for purchasing medical equipment.
• Charitable Foundation Voices of Children — aid to Children. 
• Leleka Foundation — NGO in America that usually raises charity and implements projects of medical and social assistance in Ukraine, is now crowdfunding for purchasing medical and protective equipment.
• African Diaspora Haven — assistance to Africans fleeing Ukraine. Other options for assistance apart from donations.

Big American and international NGOs that have launched fundraising campaigns for Ukraine:

• Save the children — helping children in Ukraine. 
• CARE — fundraising for humanitarian aid, such as water, food, medicine, clothes. 
• International Rescue Committee — the International Committee responds to the world’s most serious humanitarian crises, and the war in Ukraine is no exception. The project team helps to restore health, safety, education and economic well-being of people affected by war. 
• International Medical Corps — fundraising for medical care.
• Mercy Corps — the fund operates in Ukraine, Romania and Poland. Donations shall be made to local organizations knowing the needs of their community and covering urgent humanitarian needs.
• SOS Children’s Villages — aid to children in Ukraine and to those forced to leave for neighboring countries.
• OutRight Action International — helping LGBTQ+ people from Ukraine. 
• Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund — humanitarian aid to Ukraine and those regions where there are many Ukrainian refugees now.
• Action Against Hunger — humanitarian aid, such as food, water, medicine, clothes. The organization also assists refugees at the borders with Romania, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Moldova.
• Doctors Without Borders — medical aid in Ukraine and countries that host many Ukrainian refugees. 
• GlobalGiving, a U.S.-based non-profit crowdfunding platform for grass-roots charitable projects that has launched its Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund page.

Other ways to help

Fill out a volunteer form of RAZAM, a Ukrainian NGO in the US. 

Buy items of Ukrainian authors and small businesses on Etsy, refusing delivery. So, you just transfer them the money for the goods.
