Let’s start with the latest relevant startups and get to last year’s developments of domestic electronic warfare means.

EW system «Babai» with web interface

Ukrainian volunteer engineers have developed the «Babai» electronic warfare system, which has become a response to the active use of enemy drones. The system has a web interface for remote control, supports automatic and manual modes, allows you to separately control antennas, analyze the spectrum and keep a log of events. It works autonomously, has active cooling and is connected via Wi-Fi or Ethernet. «Babai» is already used by combat units, in particular the 10th Mountain Assault, 59th and 67th Brigades.

The development of «Babay» lasted for more than a year. The team conducted dozens of field tests to achieve the required efficiency. Among the advantages are the ability to configure signatures for recognizing drone signals, remote diagnostics, and warranty service until the end of martial law. The system is adapted to real frontline conditions and has already demonstrated effectiveness in combat zones. The next step will be a mini-version of «Zhuk», capable of operating autonomously in conjunction with the «PES Sirko» detector.

Algiz AM EW to combat enemy Mavic drones

Ukrainian engineers presented the Algiz AM mobile electronic warfare system, capable of jamming control signals from Mavic-type drones. The system operates in all directions (360°), supports remote control and instantly responds to enemy UAVs. Algiz AM has already been tested at the front, has been codified and is ready for mass production. The development takes into account the wishes of the military, in particular autonomy and multi-band support.

Electronic warfare detector «Chuyka 3.0»

The Chuyka 3.0 video signal detector from BlueBird Drones allows the military to intercept analog broadcasts from enemy FPV drones and even some strike UAVs in real time. The device scans the airwaves in 4–8 seconds, detects up to three signal sources simultaneously, and displays video on the screen. The operating range is up to 4 km. More than 20 units are already using it at the front, and the next version of Chuyka 4.0 will have integration with electronic warfare and network functionality.

Kvertus LTEJ Mirage system

Kvertus presented LTEJ Mirage — a new generation intelligent electronic warfare system capable of creating radio interference at any frequency. Thanks to its modular architecture, the system works in a single ecosystem together with electronic intelligence (ELINT) means and can autonomously coordinate signal suppression. The operator controls the entire network: from several to hundreds of units, from a single control center, even remotely.

LTEJ Mirage supports flexible delimitation of access rights: one operator controls a sector up to 5 km, another up to 10 km, and another one controls the entire front line. The power of the 20-watt modules exceeds the typical 100-watt units of competitors. The system is integrated with MS Azimut, the ELINT platform analyzes the spectrum and transmits data to the electronic warfare system, which accurately blocks enemy signals.

Kvertus previously reported that they are working on a solution capable of disabling drones with machine vision that use AI. Over $500,000 has been invested in the development of such tools. The technology has already been tested in conditions close to combat and submitted for codification for deployment.

Electronic warfare system «Patelnya»

Unwave introduced the infantry electronic warfare system «Patelnya-2K/3K», an electronic warfare tool designed for mobile use by airborne assault units. The system is worn as a backpack, is MOLLE compatible, and allows the operator to control the antenna with one hand. The weight of the complex is 15 kg, power is 50 W per channel.

A special feature of the «Frying Pan» is a protective hood that shields the operator from harmful radiation, which can cause nausea, headaches, and fatigue.

The «2K» model jams frequencies 2400–2484 and 5725–5850 MHz, and the «3K» version additionally blocks the 5150–5300 MHz range. The system dimensions are 640×350×400 mm. According to engineers, the «Patelnya» allows you to effectively jam signals from FPV drones, while remaining as mobile as possible on the front line.

Electronic warfare systems from Zhytomyr volunteers

Volunteers from Zhytomyr, known for their «Polish Armor» and «bird» drones, have developed mobile electronic warfare systems to combat enemy drones. The first tri-band device, operating at frequencies of 700, 900 and 1100 MHz, has successfully passed final tests and will soon be sent to the Zaporizhia region to protect the equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Thanks to their own developments and donations, they managed to reduce the cost from $5,000 to approximately 40,000 hryvnias, which makes the system accessible for mass use. All EW systems will be transferred to the military free of charge, which increases their effectiveness in combating air threats. Volunteers are actively working on improvements and plan to develop models with a longer range and expanded functionality to provide reliable protection of the front from drones and electronic attacks.

Universal electronic warfare system «Safe-5»

The Ukrainian company VPP Invest, which started with drones, has created a universal electronic warfare complex «Safe-5». The device has five antennas and can be powered from the on-board network, which ensures long-term operation without overheating. «Safe-5» protects positions at a distance of 150–500 m, blocking the communication of enemy drone pilots at a distance of 2–5 km. The complex works both in stationary mode and portable, and is already used in the Armed Forces of Ukraine with positive feedback.

The electronic warfare market in Ukraine is actively developing: the Brave1 cluster unites over 900 manufacturers with over 1,600 developments. The military emphasizes that such systems are needed in every trench and on every vehicle. Among other developments are the PARASOL electronic warfare system from MixSteel, Bureva in Vinnytsia, and Ai-Petri SV for combating FPV drones. The Air Force Command reports that the Pokrova system helped shoot down about 20 enemy missiles during attacks in January.

Trench EW PARASOL

The Ukrainian company MixSteel, a member of the Brave1 cluster, has created the PARASOL trench electronic warfare system in two modifications. The first, PARASOL 01, protects positions from Russian FPV drones at a distance of up to 200 m, and the second, PARASOL 02, jams drones by installing it on equipment via the on-board network at the same distance.

The systems are easy to operate: you can learn to use them in 10–15 minutes. The defense forces are already actively using this development. The Minister of Digital Transformation, Mykhailo Fedorov, emphasized that before the war in Ukraine there was no short-range electronic warfare, and now this area is rapidly developing thanks to the Brave1 cluster.

Trench electronic warfare systems «Bureva»

And again trench EW😀. Volunteers and entrepreneurs in Vinnytsia region are producing Burevai EW, which blocks the frequencies on which Russian drones operate, disorients them in space and neutralizes them. These portable electronic warfare devices can be installed on cars, armored personnel carriers, tanks or stationary positions. When activated, Burevai jams the signals of enemy drones, depriving them of communication with operators, which causes loss of control and the drones to fall.

The devices are very easy to use, even a person without special training can turn them on, which makes the «Burevy» especially valuable in field combat conditions. Components are purchased abroad, and the housings and electronics are manufactured in Ukraine, which allows us to maintain production within the country.

The cost of the system ranges from 30,000 to 105,000 hryvnias, which is significantly cheaper than similar anti-drone means. The Ukrainian military has already noted the effectiveness of the Bureviya on the front, where it helps defend positions from drone attacks.

Electronic warfare system «Ai-Petri SV»

Ukrainian engineers have created a modern electronic warfare system «Ai-Petri SV», which effectively suppresses the communication of Russian drones and disorients FPV-UAVs. The complex is equipped with a radar station, an anti-drone device, as well as a mobile headquarters vehicle and means of communication and power supply. «Ai-Petri SV» can detect the positions of drone operators, suppress their communication at a distance of up to 20 km, and also interfere with the operation of guided aerial bombs (GAB).

The project was financed by private funds, including an investment of over UAH 150 million from Petro Poroshenko. The first complexes are already operating at the front, in particular in the Avdiivka area, and operators are undergoing special training to work with the equipment. The development took less than six months, which is much faster than usual, and the team is working on scaling the system due to high demand from the military.

Why is this important?

The development of electronic warfare in Ukraine is not just a response to modern challenges, but a strategic step towards gaining an advantage on the battlefield. Each system, from portable means that are easily used by fighters on the front lines to complex integrated solutions that coordinate the work of all military equipment, strengthens our defense and saves lives. These electronic warfare systems are an important component of victory, which is already working at the front and will continue to develop.

If there is no relevant Ukrainian electronic warfare development in the above list, write to us and we will definitely add it to this rating.

We previously wrote how the Cabinet of Ministers updated the procurement mechanism for domestic drones and tactical-level electronic warfare systems: now the state customer may not involve its representatives in the acceptance of products if the manufacturer provides a quality certificate.
