Senior HR and Recruiter Anastasia Zherebetska shared effective tips on how to make sure that your cover letter doesn’t just «wink» at the recruiter, but shows your value.

«Be creative! Stand out. Focus on yourself and the Company, because typical templates from the Internet do not attract much attention,» emphasizes Anastasia Zherebetskaya.

To write a Cover Letter that the recruiter will respond to, the recruiter advises:

  1. Kill the recruiter with the first sentence (but gently). No «Hello, I want to submit a resume.» Write a hook that will immediately grab their attention.
    For example: «I know how to increase the performance of your project by 40%. And I know how to do it quickly.»
  2. No watered-down «I am hardworking and responsible.» Recruiters read this every day. Add facts and figures. For example:
    «On a previous project, I optimized the API, which reduced the loading time from 6 to 2 seconds.»
  3. Personalize for the job (yes, it’s not fast, but it works). Find the recruiter’s name, write specifics about the company in the letter. Show that you didn’t just press Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V. Example: «Your React.js team consists of 50+ developers? My experience with React architecture allows you to integrate today.»
  4. Avoid «dry» text. Add a little personality. It can be a short story, a joke, or a fact about yourself. But within the limits of a professional tone. For example: «I started as a QA, broke so many bugs that I moved to development — so that I would never see them again.»
  5. End with a specific call-to-action. «I hope to hear from you» is weak. Show initiative. For example: «I am ready to show my solution to your problem tomorrow at a technical interview.»
