"I'm looking for hungry minds," Team Lead said, adding strict conditions and receiving over 350 comments in response. What did IT people say to him?

Oleg Gribachov, Resell Department Team Lead at the Performance Marketing agency specializing in iGaming and sports, Makeberry, spoke about his criteria for finding employees. And although he noted that he is not strict, but because «Affiliate is a sport,» and not a warm office chair, his arguments were not accepted by everyone. Here is what other IT professionals think about his approach.

And although he noted that he is not strict, but because «Affiliate is a sport,» and not a warm office chair, his arguments were not accepted by everyone. Here is what other IT professionals think about his approach.

«I’m looking for hungry minds. Those who are not afraid to „take on themselves“, make a decision, take a test, admit a mistake,» said Oleg Gribachov. He added that he does not hire people who:

  1. They ask, «What exact role will I have?»
  2. They think that work is from 9 to 18.
  3. They are looking for stability, not results.

Sounds like a violation of workers' rights. Ukraine, as a modern democratic state, should have businesses that are not like collective farms. Workers have clear rights and obligations. When a business wants an employee to work overtime and the employee agrees to it, the business should pay increased wages as for overtime. If the company is unstable, a good specialist will not go there. God forbid working in such conditions. I hope the situation for your workers will improve.
Yevhen Honcharenko, Head of Sportsbook | Product owner, Sportsbook strategy

All three things you wrote are about a qualified employee with good time management and a clear understanding of what he will do.

For example, I like the other 3 rules better:

  • It doesn’t matter where a person works (at home or in the office).
  • It doesn’t matter how much time he spends at the computer, what matters is his efficiency. He did the work in an hour — handsome, you can rest.
  • If a person gives a Stable Good Result, then simply take steps to meet him and improve his living conditions by increasing his salary and bonuses!
Oleksandr Mamrenko, Full-stack developer

I don’t go to employers who:

  1. They don’t say what my role in the project will be.
  2. They think I’ll be scolding them 24/7.
  3. They chase results, not stability.

It’s not because I’m cruel. It’s because of «work life balance,» not a cheap chair from IKEA.

I’m looking for open minds. Those who are not afraid to hire people, not slaves, who agree on decisions, do tests, and admit mistakes.

Traffic loves the ALLOWED speed limit. And so do the people who want to work with me.

Oksana, Quality Assurance Engineer
One thing is interesting — what results of such an approach can you share? In the form of «ALREADY shaken». This is not hate, absolutely. If there are impressive positive results, then the approach has a place to be
Oleksandr Borodavka, Senior Full-Stack Developer

> 3. 📉 They seek stability, not results

I think for people who have a family, the former is more important than the latter.

Anatoly Rodionov, QA Engineer
The main thing is that this is reflected in the terms of the contract, and not on the Linkedin page, then no one will have any questions or complaints, everyone will know what they signed up for, who has to do what, and how much it will cost.
Mykola Antonov, Full Stack PHP developer

The first question you need to ask the company now is: Are there any reservations?

If not, then companies don’t care about employees, and they can replace you tomorrow.

Serhiy, Software Engineer

I am not looking for a job:

  1. Where it is not clear what my exact role in the team and responsibilities are.
  2. Where the work schedule is not agreed with the team.
  3. Where you have to invent tasks just to demonstrate the performance.
Serhiy Prysyazhny, Procurement Business Analyst

Ah, youth :))…

Your productivity and your idealism about hungry minds can play a cruel joke with you. Because employees can and should be different to balance different tasks, each in their own place and according to their skills, psychotype, etc. It will be worse when a colleague makes a mistake and it will annoy you, because he will not meet your hungry minds standards.

Your regime is always about burnout. It comes imperceptibly. But you are not threatened by it yet. Burnout has already been written about above. See you in 2030.

Vladislav Shepelenko, Quality Assurance Engineer
Add to the list of unprofitable, people with disabilities and young girls and you can get a bunch of likes for the post. The thing is that if you have a fixed salary, then you have no right, neither moral nor legal, to demand from a person changes and responsibilities beyond functional duties. Therefore, in your case, the salary should be appropriate and the hourly rate. Because your business is your business, and your workers are not obliged to plow for the benefit of your pocket.

What is the result?

Volodymyr Yevremov, a full stack web developer at Laravel & Vue.js, sees no reason to worry about the post author’s statement. «What he wrote might really be useful to someone. It’s not for me, and I see that it’s not for many people either,» the developer added .

JavaScript Technical Lead Volodymyr Shaitan spoke about what the search approach described by Oleg Gribachov could lead to. According to him, in such a case:

  1. If you force a software development specialist to plan the door, you will waste money and time.
  2. An exhausted person cannot be productive. And hatching more hours for the sake of hatching is stupidity.
  3. Stability is security, of course, if it is not «stable bad.» A person who feels safe has less stress and more resources for productive work.

«You are looking for such people not because you are tough, but perhaps because you really want to have ‘hungry minds’ — the emphasis here is on ‘hungry’,» he added.
