A former Google marketer is trying to find a new job in a world swept by AI, and he’s decided to get creative. He’s distributing homemade flyers offering $2,000 to anyone who can help him land a job.
According to the San Francisco Standard, Philipp Rössler is 41 years old and originally from Bavaria. He worked at Google under contract and was laid off in July of last year. In 10 months, he applied for dozens of vacancies, received many recommendations from acquaintances, but despite 12 years of experience in the world’s top IT companies, it was all in vain: resumes seemed to disappear into the void. 2,800 people applied for one of the senior marketing positions he applied for.
Then Philip decided to promote himself as a product using marketing techniques. «I am a brand,» he explained his strategy. To stand out from the candidates who sent AI-generated cover letters, he added a touch of humanity: he began to post flyers with his photo at bus stops, hoping that a manager looking for a marketing specialist would notice him.
The San Francisco residents posted the story on Reddit, but there Rössler was ridiculed for his sincerity and the design of the flyer: «Terrible design for a marketing person.» Some considered it an act of ostentation or even fraud, although the QR code does indeed lead to his LinkedIn profile. Philip himself says that at first he read the comments, but later stopped — they say that such criticism is not inspiring, and it is easy to hide behind anonymous nicknames.
However, the idea worked. Last week, an employee of a large company promised to give him a recommendation. He himself had been unemployed for 15 months and sincerely sympathizes with the marketer. And he refused the offered bonus.
Ukrainian IT professionals often offer bonuses to those who help them find a job. In particular, Senior AQA Engineer Oleksandr Sotnichenko offered recruiters who would help him find a job a reward of $1,000. And the former co-founder of the startup Adsme offered recruiters a reward of $2,500 and found a job very quickly.
«I see it as a scam.» The senior developer turned down the offer after working for the company for two days. He is now looking for a new job and is willing to pay $1,000 to anyone who can help.
«I will pay the recruiter $1000 for an accepted offer.» Senior AQA Engineer offers money, or finding a job as soon as possible after the end of the current contract
