IT-residents reduced their donations to the army, but those who do not plan to leave give twice as much: DOU study
In 2025, the Ukrainian IT community continues to support the army, but the volume of donations has decreased. The average monthly contribution amount fell to $155 against $188 last year, and the relative figure decreased from 7% to 5% of salary. At the same time, specialists who do not consider emigration remain the most loyal: they allocate approximately 10% of income to the needs of the army.
This is evidenced by a large survey of 13,607 professionals conducted by DOU. Among those surveyed in Ukraine, 73% continue to donate, while among those who have gone abroad and do not plan to return, the share of donors is only half. The most active helpers are those Ukrainians abroad who want to return: 75% of them regularly send money.
By position and specialization, C-level and DevOps lead the way. Company executives donate an average of $460 per month, while DevOps donates $275. Developers donate about $185, while marketers and HR contribute less, at $115, although the share of donors is the highest there. Overall, there are more donors among women (75%) and among those with reservations (82%).
The regional breakdown is also indicative. In frontline regions, IT workers are willing to give a higher percentage of their salary: in Zaporizhia region this figure reaches 8%, in Sumy and Mykolaiv regions — 7%. The largest absolute amounts come from specialists from Kyiv region, although the average donation per year there decreased to $168. From abroad, the most active IT workers remain in the United Kingdom and Portugal, where monthly donations exceed $250.
Despite the overall reduction, the IT sector remains a key donor to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. One in twenty specialists contributes more than $1,000 per month, and 4% spend a quarter or more of their salary. This demonstrates that even in times of economic pressure, a significant part of the industry continues to consistently finance the country’s defense.
As we previously reported, dev.ua wrote about how the Rakuten Viber messenger team conducted a survey on its official Ukrainian channel with 30,000 subscribers on whether Ukrainians would donate to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Only 6% «see no point» in donating.
«Prytula bought a satellite with human money to broadcast the national marathon.» The volunteer spoke about the «evolution of morons» and all the conspiracy theories he is accused of regarding the satellite he bought as a donation
The Ministry of Digital Affairs said that only 4% of Ukrainians spend «a thousand rubles» on donations to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This may be an error due to the counting system of some banks
