Anthropic wants to beat OpenAI and gives its AI tools to the US government for $1 a year
Anthropic has decided to make a strategic move in its competition with OpenAI by offering US government agencies access to its artificial intelligence Claude for just $1 per year. This symbolic fee applies to all three branches of government and is intended to stimulate the active implementation of AI in the public sector, removing financial barriers and creating long-term dependence on the company’s own technologies.

This symbolic fee applies to all three branches of government and is intended to stimulate the active implementation of AI in the public sector, removing financial barriers and creating long-term dependence on the company’s own technologies.
The offer, which covers the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of government, comes almost immediately after OpenAI announced that ChatGPT Enterprise will be available to U.S. federal agencies for $1 per year per agency, as both companies aim to become key AI providers for the government, which is increasingly integrating AI into its workflows.
Anthropic said it wants to remove financial barriers to implementing advanced AI tools in the public sector, providing the same capabilities that are already successfully working in private companies. Claude has already been added to the General Services Administration (GSA) list to simplify procurement, and the Claude for Enterprise and Claude for Government versions are designed to work with sensitive but unclassified information.
The company will also provide technical support for rapid implementation of AI in agencies, helping to integrate it into daily tasks and mission processes.
Anthropic, OpenAI, and xAI recently received a joint $200 million contract from the U.S. Department of Defense to develop models focused on national security needs. GSA representatives called the agreement with Anthropic an example of the large-scale and responsible implementation of AI in government work.
Experts predict that such a «symbolic price» strategy will help companies quickly create government dependence on their technologies and obtain long-term contracts in a rapidly developing field.
