According to Engadget, a small group of users may have gained access to the model through a third-party contractor environment. According to the publication, they used a developer portal and open search tools to find their way into the system. Anthropic said it is currently investigating the incident.
Claude Mythos Preview was unveiled in early April as part of the Glasswing project. The model was not made available to a wide audience and was only provided to a limited number of partners for testing. Among them were large technology companies that used the tool to find bugs in their own software.
The interest in Mythos is due to its capabilities. The company claims that the model is capable of finding vulnerabilities in key operating systems and browsers. For example, Mozilla reported that it was able to detect hundreds of problems in Firefox using this tool.
There is currently no evidence that the access was used for attacks. According to sources, the group members were only testing the model. At the same time, the very fact of access to a closed tool raises questions about the security of the environments through which companies provide access to partners.
The Mythos story illustrates a specific risk for the market: even if a model is not public, it can be accessed through ancillary services, such as developer or contractor portals. For tools that can find critical vulnerabilities, this means that controlling access becomes as important as the model’s capabilities themselves.
