"Astrology is a provocative topic. Everyone thinks you're a fortune teller." How a Ukrainian woman left IT and opened her own astrology school, which brings her an income of up to $7,000

After seven years in IT and a leadership role, Victoria Sinkevich resigned without a clear plan — due to illness and professional burnout. Today, she lives in Spain, develops her own astrology school, and earns more than in the technology industry. We spoke with Victoria about her journey from business assistant to astropsychologist.
About the path to IT
Victoria Sinkevich's IT career began in 2013, right after university. She started as a business assistant, where she handled correspondence with clients, travel arrangements, visa support, and onboarding new employees. Prior to that, she had experience teaching English, which helped her quickly adapt to the international environment.
Victoria has built an impressive career in the industry over the past seven years. In 2018, she became the head of the business travel department at a new company, where she created a logistics system from scratch, recruited a team, and set up reporting via Jira. Victoria personally developed instructions for obtaining visas to all countries of the world and concluded direct contracts with hotels and airlines.
“After university, I went to work as an assistant in an IT company. I was involved in business correspondence from the company owners to clients. And I solved issues related to organizing business trips and visas. From 2013 to 2020 — 7 years in IT,” said Victoria.
However, behind the outward success were serious challenges. In 2019, Victoria faced a serious illness that put her on the verge of life and death.
"Despite my illness, I continued to go to work in the office. In the morning, I went to the dispensary to get pills, which were issued against receipt every day only in person because of the strong chemical content. And after that, I went to work. That's how I worked until 2020," Victoria noted.
New challenges — new opportunities
Astrology is a pretty provocative topic. Everyone thinks you're a fortune teller.
The decision to leave IT matured at the end of 2020 against the backdrop of a crisis in the company and the understanding that her contribution did not correspond to the level of salary. Victoria went "to nowhere" to take care of her health and undergo rehabilitation. It was during this difficult period that astrology, which had been just a hobby since 2018, became a support and a means of self-knowledge for her.
“The first thought came when I realized that I had done so much for the company, and my salary did not match all of that. I went nowhere and decided to take care of my health,” Victoria shared.
Astrology helped Victoria understand the causes of her illness and distract herself from depressive thoughts. At first, she only consulted friends and acquaintances through word of mouth, with no plans to turn her new hobby into a profession.
“Astrology helped me not to lose my mind during my illness. And not to think that I could die. And when the war started… it actually helped me earn at least some money,” Victoria shared her memories of the beginning of a new path.

However, the outbreak of full-scale war changed everything. Victoria, who already had two children at that time, began to receive massive requests for consultations. Thanks to her knowledge, she was able to predict the outbreak of war and the occupation of certain regions, which helped many of her clients to leave for safe places in time.
"I predicted the war before it even started. And my close friend made me essentially have an Instagram. She said I should help people more. Going out on social media was the hardest thing for me, because astrology is a pretty provocative topic. Everyone thinks you're a fortune teller," Victoria said.
Despite waves of hate from those who did not believe in the longevity of the conflict, successful predictions only strengthened her reputation and motivated her to move forward.
"Some people changed their lives after my predictions. Because I told the truth, not what people wanted to hear. And some left the border towns because I predicted that there would be an occupation. Now these people are incredibly grateful to me. It motivated me a lot. Especially the predictions about the shelling and the situation in the country as a whole came true. And so it became known and caused a lot of hate," the astrologer noted.
People wanted to go to Crimea in 2023, and I predicted a long and protracted war.
Thanks to astrology, Victoria discovered talents that she had never even suspected before. She began writing books, as well as generating ideas for unique projects that she patents, because they are one of a kind. In addition, she creates projects that help people cope in these difficult times. This is what motivates her to continue in the profession.
About money and self-employment
The biggest financial challenge for her was her first investment in advertising, as the cost of consultations at the beginning of her new field of activity was still low. Now she consistently invests $500 per target and has her own team, which includes a targeting specialist, a marketing specialist and a technical specialist. However, at the start it was difficult for her to decide on promotion and allocate funds for advertising precisely because of the low check.
Financially, the new field turned out to be even more successful than the previous one. While Victoria earned about $2,000 in IT, now her stable income is $3,000, and during the launch periods of courses and master classes it reaches $7,000 per month. She values freedom, the ability to plan her own schedule and be with her children when necessary.
“In IT, in my position as a department head, the salary was $2,000. Currently, I earn a steady $3,000, and taking into account the launch of the school… that’s about $7,000 a month,” the astrologer said.

Today, Victoria has been living in Spain for eight months, where she is developing her own astrology school. Her audience is mainly Ukrainians, although she also consults clients from Italy, the USA and Poland in English and Italian. Her experience in IT has proven invaluable: her presentation skills and technical background help her easily master software and organize training events.
Victoria admits that there is a lot of competition in astrology, because on Instagram almost every third person calls themselves an astrologer. However, she herself does not feel this competition. Over 7–8 years of practice, she has gained confidence in her knowledge: regular clients always return, which for her is the best indicator of professionalism. In addition, her group projects bring significant results to the participants.

"I don't have a consultation, which everyone else does. That is, a "natal chart", because it is not effective. I work for results. Therefore, all my consultations are thematic with a forecast and recommendations on how to act in a specific situation. This is a big advantage, because a person pays for instructions for the result. And not just for being told what talents they have," the astrologer said about her approach.
She notes that she does astrology primarily for the pleasure and the opportunity to help people. In her work, she is guided by the principle that it is an interaction with a person’s destiny. That is why, according to her, she does not have to actively sell her consultations, because the demand is so high that the appointment is filled 2–3 months in advance.
Advice and plans for the future
For those who are afraid of change, she advises starting a new business in parallel with their main job to have a financial cushion for training and promotion.
"The first thing I would recommend is to get professional advice and understand whether the new area is suitable for implementation. And when exactly should you start," Victoria noted.
In her opinion, the main thing is to find an area where you can bring real results to clients, not just list their talents.
Although Victoria sometimes remembers corporate life and coffee in the office kitchen with nostalgia, she is in no hurry to return to IT. Her main goal now is to develop professional astropsychology and fight the "infogypsies" who are damaging the industry's reputation.
However, she leaves the door open for startups: if there is a budget, Victoria is ready to become a Product Owner in a project that combines IT and astrology.
"My plan for the near future is to develop my school of astrology. So that there are fewer infogypsies in the world... and more professionals who advise according to all the rules of astropsychology and do not harm a person," Victoria concluded.
