An IT company couldn't fill a vacancy for six months, so a team member applied for it under a fictitious name and was rejected in 6 minutes. What is the reason?
A team leader at an IT company had been unable to fill an open position since April because HR complained about a lack of suitable candidates. To test the problem, he applied to his own vacancy under a fictitious name with what was essentially his resume and received an automatic rejection within six minutes.
A team leader at an IT company had been unable to fill an open position since April because HR complained about a lack of suitable candidates. To test the problem, he applied to his own vacancy under a fictitious name with what was essentially his resume and received an automatic rejection within six minutes.
This story was told by a Reddit user in the r/recruitinghell community in a post that was later deleted by moderators, but the case went viral on social media.
According to the IT specialist, he leads a team of nine people. Since April, the company has felt an urgent need for specialists for the position of Senior Associate, but the HR department reported every week about the "bad situation in the market" and the lack of specialists who would pass the initial screening.
To find out why there were no candidates, the team leader decided to apply himself. He created a new email address, changed his name, slightly adjusted the dates, and sent the resume of the person who had written the job description.

"I was automatically rejected in six minutes. It took me a week to figure out why. The filter was set to require the candidate to have "React.js," and my resume had "React." That’s it. Period," the specialist said.
As it turned out, a small technical error in the settings of the automated selection system (ATS) had been filtering out qualified specialists for months. The author noted that he is now afraid to check the other two criteria in the HR department’s filtering settings.
