Bolt has developed a new feature for the Bolt Driver app that allows drivers to independently indicate their actual location on the map. This solution will help overcome the effects of GPS disruptions caused by electronic warfare.
Due to systematic jamming and distortion of the satellite signal, drivers in Ukraine often find that navigation "transports" them to neighboring areas or even hundreds of kilometers from the real point. As a result, the service's algorithms cannot assign orders to drivers who are nearby, even if they are online and ready to complete trips.
From now on, if the GPS determines the coordinates incorrectly, the driver can manually correct his location.
To use the feature:
update the Bolt Driver app to the latest version and go online;
on the main screen, click on the icon with a label (located on the left above the map button);
Move the map so that the center marker corresponds to your actual location, and confirm your selection.
“GPS inaccuracies are one of the most common problems currently faced by online services in Ukraine that use geolocation. For drivers, this can mean that nearby orders do not arrive due to an incorrectly determined location. Therefore, we not only added the ability to manually indicate your location on the map, but also made it convenient in daily work: it is enough to set a point once when going online. After that, there is no need to adjust the geolocation each time: to select the next order, the application will take into account the place where the current trip will be completed. It can start looking for the next order even before the driver drops off the passenger,” comments Serhiy Pavlyk, General Manager of Bolt in Ukraine.
The company emphasizes that the function is intended solely to correct GPS errors, and not to artificially change the work area.
In addition, the settings are automatically reset when the driver goes offline or starts driving to the client. The application warns the passenger if the system detects problems with the car's GPS signal. In the event of failures, the service advises passengers to call the driver to clarify the actual pickup point and agree on landmarks.
