A second smart shelter has appeared in Ukraine. The official opening of CLUST SPACE DNIPRO for students took place on February 5 in the main building of the O. Honchar DNIU, the PR support service reported.
CLUST SPACE DNIPRO is built according to a concept similar to the first smart shelter CLUST Space, opened on January 25, 2024 in the basement of the library of the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. During the first year of its existence, CLUST SPACE KYIV has already hosted 66,000 people, held presentations, competitions, contests, hackathons, defenses of scientific papers, etc.
The shelter in Dnipro is also designed according to the smart shelter concept and occupies 550 m², where every meter is functionally used. The area includes a large open space, an area for sports, computer games and relaxation, rooms for meetings and practical group exercises, video call capsules, rooms for independent work, a cafeteria, restrooms and showers.
«It is important for us that any student events are held safely, so we are expanding the network of university shelters,» says Serhiy Okovity, rector of the O. Honchar DNU. The smart shelters at the university were opened, according to him, thanks to a partnership with the venture builder CLUST. «A new, modernly furnished and equipped safe space for ideas and partnerships will become another attraction for the proactive and creative university family,» the rector added.
CLUST SPACE DNIPRO can accommodate about 350 people who can hide in shelter for a long time in times of danger.
The main donor of the smart shelter project in Dnipro was Freedom Holding Corp, which also served as a source for CLUST Space in KPI. The project was also assisted by the Usyk Foundation, the Svichado Foundation, Lenovo, and the Epicenter network. The construction of CLUST SPACE DNIPRO lasted about 4 months and cost $350,000.
The city where the third smart shelter is planned to be built is already known. It will be Odesa. The organizers have already prepared the CLUST SPACE ODESA design project at the I. Mechnikov ONU. They are currently looking for sources of financing for the construction.
CLUST SPACE is a charitable project of smart shelters for students at higher educational institutions of Ukraine, initiated and financed by entrepreneur Ruslan Timofeev as part of the corporate social responsibility of the CLUST company. The CLUST team decided to build smart shelters at universities that combine the functions of shelter and coworking.
