German startup DeepL, known for its AI-based translator, has introduced a new product — DeepL Agent, which should automate routine processes in companies and become a competitor to solutions from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Microsoft.
According to CNBC, the company is positioning the new tool as an assistant for performing «repetitive, time-consuming tasks» in various departments: from HR to marketing. The agent works in the format of an integrated assistant, capable of responding to commands in natural language and executing them in the background.
DeepL CEO Jarek Kutylowski explained that the product was a logical extension of the translation service:
«We found that technology can help beyond translation — from research to data transfer between systems. DeepL Agent can make all of these routine tasks much easier.»
Unlike many companies that are just experimenting with agent-based models, DeepL has built a solution based on its own LLM, but also uses external developments. Entering this market marks a new stage of development for the $2 billion startup, which previously focused exclusively on language technologies.
The demand for agent-based AI systems is growing rapidly as businesses look for ways to automate processes and reduce costs. Microsoft has integrated such tools through Co-Pilot, and Anthropic is actively developing its Claude for enterprise customers.
Despite the new ambitious move, DeepL has no plans to go public yet. «It’s not a short-term plan that we would consider right now,» Kutylowski commented.
Investor interest in the AI market remains high: Anthropic recently raised $13 billion at a valuation of $183 billion, and Klarna and Gemini are preparing for IPOs. In this context, DeepL’s entry into the agent systems segment could be an important competitive challenge for global players and at the same time a chance for Europe to consolidate its own position in the AI industry.
