Ukrainian company Defender Dynamics has created a line of Photon drones capable of intercepting and striking enemy targets in fully automatic mode. The UAVs have already passed flight and shooting tests and are being prepared for transfer to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to Military, the company has developed several models of copters with frames from 7 to 11.2 inches. They can carry up to six barrels of their own production, which provides flexibility in choosing the combat load. The titanium barrels are light and durable, and the 12-gauge allows the use of both shot and buckshot, depending on the task.
The key feature of the Photons is the automatic engagement mode. The drone uses lidar to independently determine the distance to the target, lock on to it, and open fire without the operator’s involvement. This is especially effective at night, when it is more difficult for the pilot to visually control the situation. At the same time, the operator retains the ability to fire manually.
The models are equipped with different types of cameras: digital, analog, thermal and twilight, which makes them universal for different conditions. The radius of effective destruction is about 5 meters, and the minimum distance is 0.5 meters. During the tests, the "Photons" successfully destroyed FPV drones with a diameter of 10 inches.
The main targets for the new fighters are enemy FPV drones, as well as reconnaissance drones of the Mavic, Matrice, Autel series. The next stage of the company's work will be the integration of this system with aircraft-type samples to combat drones Zala, Orlan or SuperCam.
Currently, several finished vehicles are being prepared for transfer to Ukrainian units for combat use.
In a broader context, Ukrainian developers are actively looking for solutions to counter massive UAV attacks. Earlier, MaXon, a company part of the Brave1 cluster, presented its own air-to-air complex based on interceptor drones. This indicates the formation of a new segment of Ukrainian air defense systems, where drones play an increasingly important role.
