Without harming your wallet: the developer created the first Ukrainian shopping simulator against impulsive spending. How does Dopamine Market work?

Recently, Kyiv AI Engineer and Frontend Developer from Rockets Serhiy Sidletsky learned about the boom in services in South Korea that help people fight impulse purchases. After all, people often look for dopamine and find it through shopping. So the developer decided to create an analogue for Ukrainians and launched an MVP in just one weekend.

Getting the joy of shopping and saving money at the same time — this is exactly the opportunity provided by Dopamine Market. The simulator allows you to fully enjoy the process of choosing products and simulating an order without real payment, Serhiy Sidletsky talks about his development on LinkedIn.

How the Dopamine Market Tricks the Brain: A Scientific Explanation

Often people go shopping not for things, but for dopamine — the hormone of pleasure and anticipation of reward. However, the biggest surge of dopamine is caused not by the fact of buying or owning an item, but by the process of preparing for it. This chain of actions looks like this: search for a product → compare → read reviews → add to cart → wait for the order.

«If you Google it, in psychology it’s called: 'anticipatory reward', 'reward prediction' and 'shopping anticipation'. That is, our brain receives a significant part of the reward even before the actual purchase,» explains Siedlecki.

What does the service simulate?

According to the developer, the service is built on the Lovable platform and is completely safe for users, as you do not need to enter any personal data to work with it.

Currently, Dopamine Market already simulates the delivery of food and snacks, as well as ordering cosmetics, clothes and appliances. The platform even simulates the movement of the courier on the map, allowing users to monitor the status of their virtual parcel in real time. In addition, the application has a «Secret Box» function, which provides a great opportunity to test your own luck.

As of June 11, the service has only been operating for the second day. Serhiy Sidletskyi calls on everyone who wants to test the shopping simulator and leave their feedback — «positive, negative, emotional, or just honest.» You can share your impressions and follow project updates directly on the developer’s LinkedIn.
