The corporation announced that with the help of Dragon Copilot they plan to «free clinicians from much of the administrative burden of healthcare,» writes The Verge, citing the words of Joe Petro, Microsoft vice president of Microsoft Health and Life Sciences solutions and platforms. The goal of the new development, according to him, is to help doctors focus on patient care.
The new system can help its users optimize their documentation through «multilingual note-taking» and natural language dictation, Microsoft says.
In 2021, the corporation acquired Nuance, a company that created voice dictation and ambient listening technology. It was this technology that formed the basis of Dragon Copilot.
It allows users to streamline their documentation by «creating multilingual notes» that can be dictated in natural language. The AI assistant offers «search for general-purpose medical information from trusted content sources,» as well as the ability to automate tasks such as «call scheduling, note and clinical evidence summaries, recommendation letters, and post-visit summaries.»
According to a survey, 93% of patients of doctors who used Nuance technology reported a «better overall experience.» Additionally, these clinicians suffered less from burnout.
The corporation claims that it is «committed to developing responsible AI» and that «Dragon Copilot’s capabilities are built on protected data and include healthcare-specific clinics, chat, and compliance assurances for accurate and safe AI outcomes.»
