"I didn't even make money on a template rejection letter," — a designer who spent 12 hours on a job application, about the degradation of employers' ethical standards

UX/UI designer Diana Nikiforova found a job at Djinni from a design agency that matched her experience perfectly. Despite the high competition, she decided to apply and got down to business. Ultimately, this story ended with what the designer called “the degradation of ethical standards of employers today,” and here’s why.
Seeing a completely relevant vacancy, Diana quickly sent in her resume. Along with her, 68 other candidates also applied for the role.
The designer received a response from the agency offering her a task, which she spent 12 hours of her personal time on. As a result, she received an invitation to an interview with 10 other lucky people — at least that many people booked an appointment via Google Meet.

"The interview is going well, at least I don't have the feeling that I messed up somewhere. I'm told that the decision will be made on Friday. I think you've already guessed that there was no decision on Friday, " Diana toldabout the further course of events after the interview in her post on LinkedIn.
On Monday, the designer decided to write to the employer herself, but again received no response. In the end, Diana didn't even receive a template rejection letter after 12 hours of work, let alone feedback.
"Some companies pay for testing, but here they didn't even pay for feedback, and what about feedback, they didn't even make money on a template rejection letter," the designer concluded.
In her post, Diana also appealed to employers to show respect for each other. “Great competition is not an excuse to devalue each other,” the designer added.
Free large-scale test tasks are a real pain in today's IT market. Dev.ua has repeatedly reported on similar stories before. One of them is about a task for a java junior position, which the IT community on LinkedIn called a "ready-made startup." Another is about a test task, which, according to the designer, is part of a commercial project .
“I don’t see the point in calling you. You either do the job or you don’t.” The recruiter refused to discuss the details of the job and immediately provided a test task. Is this the new norm?
