According to the company’s press release, to pay for purchases at Aurora, you no longer need to carry a bank card or smartphone with you. Just look into the POS terminal camera and the transaction will be completed after confirmation with a PIN code. All devices run on Android and support the FacePay function from PrivatBank, which has already been integrated into more than 1,200 retail outlets in the network.

PrivatBank notes that this is the first large-scale launch of facial payment in retail in Ukraine. According to Serhiy Makarenko, head of the trade acquiring department, the technology allows payments to be made even if the user has left their phone at home. He emphasized that this is not just an experiment, but a stably working system that may eventually become the standard for daily purchases.
This is a biometric service that PrivatBank has been actively developing since 2021. It was initially tested in the metro, coffee shops, and fast food restaurants. In 2023, the service entered the retail market, but it has only now become widespread. Privacy issues are causing some concern among experts, but the bank assures that all facial images are encrypted and not transferred to third parties.
Aurora also believes that FacePay is not just a new payment method, but part of the company’s comprehensive digital transformation. According to Fintech Manager Vitaliy Kolisnyk, the innovation helps reduce queues, simplify the cashier infrastructure, and improve the customer’s overall shopping experience.
