"You don't need to look for Juns, they match themselves. And the most difficult ones to find are SAP, Embedded, Scala, Data Engineers, Rust." The founder of JobNote shared where to look for specialists and who is the hardest to find on the ІТ-market

Oksana Lobko, founder of the job search platform JobNote.ai, shared her own observations: which specialists in the IT market are easiest to find, which are the most difficult, and which channels provide the most feedback.

"I'll talk about the current search channels that work... People are not equal, and markets are skewed. So I'll immediately operate in clusters," she notes on her LinkedIn page.

Oksana Lobko's own gradation of the demand for specialists and their uniqueness on the market looks like this. We quote her post :

— Juniors with less than 2 years of experience — you almost don't need to look for them, they will come across on their own. It's enough to publish a vacancy on social networks or ask employees.

— Frontend, QA, UX, Java, .NET, Project Manager — groups with high competition for candidates. You don’t need to look for them either, just write on social networks or ask your friends. But if QA, UX, Project Manager have been at the bottom of demand for a long time, then Frontend, Java, .NET have fallen there in the last 2 years from the very top of demand, and they are very confused about this. If they were laid off recently, they still expect respectful treatment and high salaries.

— Medium search difficulty — HR, Unity, Mobile (React Native, iOS, Android). Here you already need to publish vacancies and write to those you like.

— Most of the others need to be searched for in the same way as before. A lot of writing is done yourself. “The market has fallen” only for frontends, Java, .NET.

— The most difficult to find are SAP, Embedded, Scala, Data Engineers, Rust. Here you either have to hunt and lure, or hire expensive agencies. Or see where to move.

The founder of JobNote.ai sees an opportunity for some interchangeability in a number of areas, as well as the closing of certain positions by related specialists. We quote:

  • SAP - .NET and ERP/CRM - will easily understand SAP, as well as Project Managers with a programming background;
  • Scala - Java can easily switch;
  • Data Engineer — all backends can do this, Java and .NET are more accessible;
  • Embedded - well, there aren't that many of them, I would take students, they have the basics and learn quickly, or individual enthusiasts who have already tinkered with at least a Raspberry Pi.
  • Rust — there are very few ready-made ones, but everyone who has tried it loves this language, you can pull in any backend, young crypto enthusiasts are more likely to join (any backend is the category of Java, .NET, Node.js, Python, PHP, Ruby, C++, Golang).

As for the prices and effectiveness of various resources for finding employees, according to Oksana Lobko's observations, the following applies :

  • djinni — Database of 80+ thousand candidates, 40% respond. Vacancies are free, payment for each hire is 20% of one salary for Ukrainian candidates, 50% for foreign candidates. Free hiring of djinni with salary <=$699;
  • LinkedIn — Base ~80k, 1% respond. Vacancies are free, offers paid promotion;
  • DOU — Database of 45+ thousand candidates, 27% respond. $25 per vacancy, or access to the candidate database for $500/month. You can try it at /hire. Candidates with experience <= 1 year are available for free if you have a company page on DOU;
  • Recommendations within the company — from free to $500, rarely up to $2000;
  • Your own company website is free, works only for well-known companies, and there are few fees at the entrance;
  • Exchange contacts with friendly recruiters from their databases or recently interviewed people — from free to $500. ~50% respond;
  • work $20/vacancy, $250/month access to the candidate database (up to 10 contacts per day), but there are low-qualified candidates with poor English;
  • robota $20/vacancy, $1000/month access to the candidate database (up to 300 contacts per day), also low-skilled without English;
  • Thematic Telegram channels — an average of 1 contact per 200 participants. Hosting from free to $300.

Recently, dev.ua asked leading service and product IT employers in Ukraine how many juniors they hired this year, and how this dynamics compares to previous years. We also found out whether there will be jobs for beginners in IT in 2025, and where it is best to look for them.
