Ukrainian indie developer SLICEMENICE is preparing an unusual desktop companion called FIRE. HOLD. REPEAT for release on Steam. The game runs in the background and reacts to any user actions in the operating system.
According to the developer’s plan, the user can work in a browser, type text in documents, or perform other tasks while the fighter repels enemy attacks in a compact window.
The mechanics of FIRE. HOLD. REPEAT. are tied to everyday computer work: each mouse click anywhere on the screen is both a combat step and a currency unit (one click equals one shell). The currency obtained can be spent on improving the hero’s equipment and combat characteristics.
The game features over 40 weapons, six levels of item rarity, and 20 biomes with a variety of enemies and bosses. Other equipment includes armor, meds, and body kits that are dropped by killed enemies and then delivered directly to your inventory by a drone. Weapons can also have additional fire, poison, or electrical boosts.
In addition, the developer added specific humor to the game for the Ukrainian localization, which he was inspired by a friend from the Defense Forces.
«I have a friend in his unit who is responsible for reporting and is constantly making fun of this 'accordingly' thing. And since I have a military-themed game, I pushed myself a little and added this localization,» the author said on Reddit.
The development of FIRE. HOLD. REPEAT. used generative artificial intelligence tools to assist in writing code and basic drafts of visual assets. According to the author, no AI output was used as a final asset — all elements were refined and edited manually.
The project is currently awaiting approval for a demo on Steam. The developer also plans to release a macOS version of the game in future updates.
Ukrainian game Deputinization has been released on Steam. In it, you have to destroy Russian troops on Bayraktar and defeat the «bosses» Kadyrov and Tatarsky
