«Gemini apps will soon be available to your child. That means your child will be able to use Gemini» to ask questions, get help with homework and make up stories,» The New York Times writes, citing a letter from Google that was sent this week to the parents of an 8-year-old.
According to the report, access will be opened to children whose parents use the Family Link service. It allows you to set up Gmail and connect to various services, including YouTube, for the entire family, including the child.
To register a child’s account, parents must provide Google with their child’s personal information, including their name and date of birth.
When asked about protecting young users from dangerous content, Google spokesman Carl Ryan said that Gemini has special safeguards that should prevent the chatbot from creating certain content that is harmful to children. He added that when a child with a Family Link account uses Gemini, the company will not use that data to train its artificial intelligence.
However, in a letter from Google, the company does add that children «may encounter content you don’t want them to see» and warns parents that «Gemini can make mistakes.»
