Gemini appears in Chrome on iPhone and pulls up AI suggestions on top of open pages

The Chrome browser for iPhone and iPad has begun to receive built-in integration with the Gemini chatbot: users can call the AI from the address bar to briefly retell a page, generate an FAQ, or reformulate a complex topic.
According to 9to5Google, after updating to Chrome 143, the icon to the left of the address bar changes: instead of the Google Lens camera, a small page with a Gemini «spark» appears. Clicking it opens the Page tools panel with two options — Search screen (old Lens) and Ask Gemini. By selecting Gemini, the user sees a window with a four-color animation and the transferred URL of the current page; if desired, it can be «unshared» by clicking the cross and stopping sharing.
Chrome immediately suggests several ready-made scenarios. Gemini can briefly retell the content of the page, generate a list of frequently asked questions on the topic, or explain a complex thing in «human» language. Then you can ask any questions you want: ask to turn the text into a mini-quiz, adapt a recipe to dietary restrictions, or compare several options and give a recommendation. The answer appears in a floating window on top of the site, while the content itself remains visible in the background.
By design, it is almost a copy of the Gemini overlay in Chrome on Android: there is a button to start a new chat in the upper right corner and an additional menu designed in the Liquid Glass style. There is no choice of model — the user simply interacts with Gemini as is. For the function to work, you need to be logged in to Chrome; in Incognito mode, the integration is not available, and the distribution itself is gradual, so not all iPhone owners will see the new icon immediately.
For Google, this is another step towards a «browser with a built-in AI assistant,» which not only searches pages, but can read, interpret, and trim them to the user’s request. For the Ukrainian audience, there is an important limitation — currently, only the US and English interface languages are supported, but the trend is obvious: in the coming years, it is precisely such integrations that will determine how convenient a mobile browser will be as a working tool, and not just a «window to the Internet.»
Previously, dev.ua wrote about how ChatGPT’s popularity began to slow down. According to the analytical company Sensor Tower, although the OpenAI application still leads in terms of downloads (50% of the market) and MAU (55%), it is Google Gemini that is showing the fastest growth dynamics.
