According to 9to5Google, the switch is located under the service logo at the top of the screen. The «Advanced» option is the default and is designed to better understand context, style, and regular expressions, while «Fast» optimizes speed and resource saving. At launch, the advanced mode does not support all languages and only works for text translations; some Android users have not yet seen the new features due to a phased rollout.
It is now easier for the user to choose the approach for a specific task. For short phrases, advertisements or menus, the «Quick» mode is more convenient. For longer passages, artistic or technical texts where accuracy and style are important, it is better to switch to «Advanced» with Gemini, even if the processing takes a little longer.
The interface resembles the model selection in the Gemini app, so the logic has become consistent across the Google ecosystem. There’s no indication within Translate that the «Advanced» mode is paid, but the company traditionally ties some of its powerful features to subscriptions, so terms may change during a wider release.
The company has already attributed the jump in translation quality to the integration of the Gemini family of models: improved context, increased accuracy, multimodal capabilities and speech synthesis are developing. On iOS, shortcuts recently appeared in Control Center for quick access to the camera translator, dictation and «Conversation» mode, and the new model switcher logically continues this line of updates.
Expectations for the Ukrainian audience are primarily related to better translations in «complex» language pairs, where a literal-word approach often breaks the meaning. Language support in «Advanced» mode is usually expanded in waves, so the accuracy of translations should increase as the feature is deployed on more devices and language combinations.
