Google unveils Gemini Deep Research update on OpenAI's GPT-5.2 release day
Google updated its Gemini Deep Research AI agent on the same day that OpenAI released the GPT-5.2 model, effectively responding to its competitor with its own release in the agent systems segment.
Google updated its Gemini Deep Research AI agent on the same day that OpenAI released the GPT-5.2 model, effectively responding to its competitor with its own release in the agent systems segment.
According to TechCrunch, the new version of Gemini Deep Research is built on the flagship Gemini 3 Pro model and has received a fundamentally different status. While the tool was previously focused on creating analytical reports, Google now allows developers to embed its research capabilities into their own applications via the Interactions API.
The updated agent is capable of working with large contexts and synthesizing large amounts of information in multi-step tasks. Google notes that customers use it for financial due diligence, drug safety studies, and other scenarios where accuracy and sustained logical reasoning are important. The company also announced the integration of Deep Research into Google Search, Google Finance, the Gemini app, and NotebookLM.
Google places a special emphasis on reducing hallucinations. According to the company, Gemini 3 Pro is its «most realistic» model, which is critical for autonomous agents that make many decisions within a single query. To confirm the progress, Google opened its own DeepSearchQA benchmark and tested the agent on independent Humanity’s Last Exam and BrowserComp. In some tests, Gemini Deep Research bypassed its competitors, although ChatGPT 5 Pro showed better results in browser agent tasks.
Google’s release comes amid the launch of GPT-5.2, codenamed Garlic, which OpenAI is positioning as outperforming its competitors on key benchmarks. The timing of the announcements underscores the intensifying competition between Google and OpenAI for dominance in agent-based AI systems that are designed to perform complex research tasks on behalf of users.
Previously, dev.ua wrote about how the Chrome browser for iPhone and iPad began to receive built-in integration with the Gemini chatbot: users can call the AI from the address bar to briefly retell a page, generate an FAQ, or reformulate a complex topic.
Як нейромережі бачать вільну та незалежну Україну? Тест dev.ua
