Google is building Gemini AI into Gmail: smart search, draft emails, and an important filter
Google has started updating Gmail with Gemini tools. Some features will be free for everyone, while access to advanced features is tied to a Google AI Pro or Ultra subscription.
Google has started updating Gmail with Gemini tools. Some features will be free for everyone, while access to advanced features is tied to a Google AI Pro or Ultra subscription.
According to Engadget, the main change is AI Overviews in Gmail search. Now in the search bar you can not only enter keywords, but also ask questions in plain language. For example, ask to find who sent you an estimate for plumbing work last year. Separately, Gmail will be taught to briefly retell long chains of letters to quickly understand what is being said, this part is announced as free. But the «search by question» in the mail will be available only with a subscription.
Two more features are also paid. Proofread is a built-in editor that suggests where to correct grammar, make the text shorter and clearer, change the style, and restructure sentences. AI Inbox is a mode that is supposed to filter out the «unnecessary» and show what is most important. Google describes it as a personal briefing. It highlights tasks and emails that the system considers to be a priority, and identifies VIP contacts based on the frequency of communication, your contacts, and assumed connections.
Help Me Write, a suggested letter draft generator, and Suggested Replies, advanced «smart replies» that try to adapt to your tone and style, are being launched free for everyone. The new features will initially be available for English-speaking users in the US, with other languages and countries promised to be added later.
This is a continuation of Google’s strategy to expand Gemini across Workspace products. Gmail previously had Smart Reply and Smart Compose, and now the company is adding more AI tools specifically for searching, prioritizing, and composing emails.
Previously, dev.ua wrote about how an AI mentor appeared on the «Diya.Osvita» platform, which is built into educational materials and helps students complete them without «hanging» on difficult deadlines and long lessons.
Як нейромережі бачать вільну та незалежну Україну? Тест dev.ua
