"I'm not half a leg. I'm a full-fledged person, a specialist." A recruiter who retrained as a designer and is looking for a job told about the most nerve-wracking interview. According to her, the employer has all the right flags at once.

Recruiter with five years of experience, Anastasia Miroshnychenko, who recently retrained as a UI/UX Design specialist, shared her impressions of the interview she had to go through after applying for a part-time job.

«It seems that today I became a „red flag“ for a company. I am an IT recruiter with 5 years of experience, who is retraining as a designer. And I am also a mother of a six-month-old baby (in this story, this is important). I am looking for different opportunities for myself, and I found a vacancy where you can work part-time and choose your schedule. Class? I thought so too. But listen further,» said Anastasia.

She said that she went through a three-week selection process: an English test, a video interview, and finally a meeting with managers.

«There were many surprising moments (in fact, all the red flags I had read about gradually came together),» the specialist said.

Among them, according to the girl, are the following:

  • Anastasia’s two-minute video was «watched» for two weeks, feedback was extracted with reminders%
  • communication with the recruiter is like with a bot, without exaggeration;
  • meeting organization: «Here is the day and time, if you can’t — we’ll let you know the day before.» No choice. Group online meeting, final — two managers, HR, me, and three more candidates. Explanation: «let’s save time.» My 3 weeks weren’t saved, okay,» Anastasia noted.

When everyone took turns talking about themselves and mentioning part-time work, it turned out to be a pain in the ears of management, and the candidates began to be devalued, says the specialist.

«We were refused, with the phrases: „In order not to waste our and your time, there is no point in continuing the conversation, you need to be trained,“ then the transition was to individuals to each candidate, for whom, perhaps, this is the first interview. I am so sorry, what exactly is this. Another red flag is the phrase that killed me: „Are you half of a leg?“. What is this anyway?», — Anastasia asks indignantly.

Then, she says, it was even more interesting: «I decided to ask why they wrote part-time in the vacancy, and at the meeting everyone „shaven“, he once said this when he refused us, „it’s not nice to hear refusals“ -, stop, what’s the point now, let’s get back to my question, I read the vacancy before I respond to it. There was no clear answer, thank you.»

In addition, the requirements for candidates were as follows: you must be online in voice chat all day, with a tracker, screenshots, and, preferably, «leave only for physiological needs.»

«And the transition to my personality struck me with its arrogance. „You and your child won’t be able to work, sit in a voice chat and be flexible at the moment“ — and much more. I can do everything, but here’s another question, do I want to? — probably not with these people. I’m not asking for favors. I’m asking you not to decide for me whether I can work,» explains Anastasia.

She added that all communication took place in English until the first «uncomfortable» question. Then — in Ukrainian.

«But you know what? I’m not half of a leg. I’m a complete person, a specialist, and a future cool designer. And while someone divides us into parts, I’ll be looking for a team that sees the whole,» Anastasia summed up her post.

There are over 90 comments under Anastasia’s post, in which IT professionals sympathize with the girl, calling such an employer «half of a company.» However, the girl is in no hurry to reveal the name of the company, fearing that the company will «drown» her as a candidate.

"It wasn't an interview, it was a mini-interrogation." A recruiter who decided to take a career break and try her hand at marketing had an interview experience that shocked her.

“I don’t see the point in calling you. You either do the job or you don’t.” The recruiter refused to discuss the details of the job and immediately provided a test task. Is this the new norm?
