According to the GUR of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the new drone is approximately 6 m long and has a wingspan of up to 5.5 m and, unlike the previous «Gerans», is made according to a normal aerodynamic scheme. At the same time, most of the key components and assemblies are unified with other models of this series.
The GUR notes that a 12-channel satellite navigation system «Comet», a tracker based on a Raspberry microcomputer and 3G/4G modems were recorded in «Geran-5». It is also reported about a Telefly jet engine, similar to that used on «Geran-3», but with greater thrust. The mass of the warhead is approximately 90 kg, and the declared range of destruction is approximately 1000 km.

Intelligence separately emphasizes that this UAV is difficult to consider as a Russian development: experts have recorded significant structural and technological similarities with the Iranian Karrar drone. Also, according to available information, the enemy is working on options for using the Geran-5 from aircraft carriers, in particular the Su-25, in order to increase the range and reduce the cost of use. Separately, the possibility of equipping the device with R-73 air-to-air missiles to counter Ukrainian aviation is being considered.
The intelligence service stated that they are already conducting a comprehensive study of the used samples of «Gerani-5», and promised to publish a detailed analysis of the design, components, and electronic component base of the power steering in the near future in the «Means of Destruction» section.
Previously, dev.ua wrote about how the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine published technical details of a new modification of the Russian Geran-2 strike drone, which was adapted to use the R-60 air-to-air missile.
