«I joke that I started my career at the end. Google had great benefits and prestige. My base salary is less now than it was then. I jumped from a corporate cruise ship to a lifeboat, but I guess I’m a sailor at heart,» Rigby told Business Insider.
He said that while working at Google, he understood the importance of transparency. Chase Rigby added that during his week at the company, he met with co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin.
«I was leaving the event and offered Larry a ride. I had no right to offer a ride to a billionaire. He refused, but left with the group. Larry told us that as a leader it’s important to be honest, even if you don’t know the answer. That stuck with me as a leader and as a father,» the former Google manager said.
He added that he didn’t like the way the company conducted performance reviews because it was time-consuming. So he developed his own system based on three questions:
«A simple structure makes it easy to give honest feedback. Telling everyone to stop doing something doesn’t hurt as much as telling just one person. It also helps with accountability. The whole team can help employees remember what they’re trying to ‘stop’ or ‘start,’» says Rigby.
He added that he himself is trying to «stop» avoiding problems.
Previously, Garima Shah, co-founder of B2B SaaS company Biller Genie, who conducts dozens of interviews a week, said that she strives to reduce their duration to six minutes.
