Kyivstar buys Comfy stake to launch its own marketplace

Ukraine’s largest telecom operator Kyivstar is close to a deal to buy a significant stake in electronics and home appliances retailer Comfy. The investment could pave the way for the launch of a large-scale marketplace and strengthening the company’s digital ecosystem.

According to Forbes Ukraine, Kyivstar and Comfy are in the final stages of negotiations, and the deal could be announced in the coming days. This is not a complete sale of the business, but rather the acquisition of a stake that will allow the operator to gain formal control and consolidate the retailer’s financial performance in its own reporting.

According to investment market sources, Kyivstar may receive a package close to the controlling one, while Comfy founder Stanislav Ronis will remain a managing partner. The company’s valuation, according to various estimates, ranges from $300 million to $350 million, although some market players call lower figures based on EV/EBITDA multiples. The final parameters of the deal are not publicly disclosed.

Comfy remains the largest electronics retailer in Ukraine by revenue. In 2024, the company exceeded $1 billion in turnover for the first time, and its market share, according to management estimates, is about 24%. In just three quarters of 2025, the retailer’s revenue exceeded UAH 25 billion, which is significantly ahead of its main competitors.

For Kyivstar, the deal fits into its strategy of transforming from a telecom operator into a digital company. The operator has previously invested in the Helsi medical service and the Uklon online car call service, and is also awaiting regulatory decisions on several other deals. Entering the electronics retail sector opens up access to offline networks, e-commerce channels, and a large customer base.

Kyivstar’s interest in Comfy has been discussed on the market since the summer of 2025. According to the participants in the negotiations, there were almost no alternatives for entering e-commerce: Rozetka has a much higher valuation, and other players do not provide the necessary scale. If the deal is closed, Comfy could become the basis for building a large Ukrainian marketplace that would compete with Rozetka, Epicenter, Kasta, and market by mono.

Previously, dev.ua wrote about how Kyivstar considers fintech and e-commerce to be the two most attractive sectors for future deals. In the e-commerce sector, the company is negotiating with the electronics and home appliance store chain Comfy.

UPD: We received a comment from Comfy:

«Comfy Trade LLC, which operates the COMFY chain of stores, is the leader in the Ukrainian market of household appliances and electronics. The company operates exclusively within the legal framework and since 2010 has been annually audited by the „Big Four“ companies.»

This confirms the transparency of the business model, financial stability, effective corporate governance and sustainable growth potential. As part of the implementation of the long-term development strategy, the company constantly analyzes various opportunities for attracting investments, partnerships or other formats of cooperation that can strengthen individual business areas and facilitate scaling to achieve strategic goals.

At the same time, as of today, the composition of the ultimate beneficial owners of Comfy Trade LLC remains unchanged. The key beneficial owners maintain a long-term focus on business development and are not considering selling the company or new partnerships that would lead to a loss of control over the company.»
