Large-scale restructuring at Promova: EdTech company lays off 63 specialists from all departments

The new wave of layoffs has affected 63 employees from all departments. Management attributes this to a change in business strategy, while former employees are actively sharing their experiences of being laid off on social media.

As reported by DOU, the Ukrainian IT product company Promova, which develops a language learning platform, is conducting a large-scale staff restructuring.

Promova explained that they are reviewing the structure in accordance with current priorities and plan to focus resources on a new stage of product development and a change in market strategy.

"We are consciously making structural changes now to be able to invest in areas that will determine the next stage of Promova's growth," company representatives noted.

The laid-off employees were promised a severance package in the amount of a month's salary and compensation for unused vacation. In addition, they will retain access to benefits for the transition period, will be provided with recommendations and will have access to the internal resource management system. The company assured that the changes will not affect the operation of the products, but did not officially specify how many people remained in the team (according to unofficial data, after optimization, the staff was reduced to 49 people).

Despite the promised compensation, employees took the news of the layoffs differently. In particular, developer Oleksiy Mazurenko, who was responsible for front-end productivity, technical SEO, and the build system for a year and a half, commented on his experience with professional irony.

"Today I found out that my position was also cut. I optimized everything except my own position," Oleksiy wrote.

The unexpected dismissal was also reported by Viktoriya Kovalchuk, a specialist in employee experience. She received the news of her position being reduced on the very day she published a post in honor of six months of work at the company.

"The best gift, right? That's what it is, employee experience. So it's official: I'm looking for a job again. I'm looking for a role where I can create employee experience, organize events and corporate initiatives, and develop culture and community," Victoria noted.

This is the second wave of large-scale layoffs at Promova in the past few months, and the previous one was also accompanied by public discussion. Then the company fired almost 30 employees “in one day”, among whom was a brand manager who was seven months pregnant . The situation caused a flurry of criticism in the IT community regarding the management’s communication methods.
