According to him, to automate the process, he used the GPT Work service, tasking the agency with creating a translation, preserving the visual style of fonts, and creating a glossary for key terms.
«God save the king of autonomous agents — I’ve been following the indie game Scarlet Deer Inn for a long time, because I really liked the style of the game, which was literally sewn from threads. The only problem is that there is no Ukrainian translation,» the blogger said.
He added that the generated Ukrainianizer has already been successfully installed on the Steam Deck portable console. Among the minuses, the enthusiast noted only the high use of resources and tokens: «The process ate up almost the entire limit, but I don’t regret anything.»
Scarlet Deer Inn is an adventure platformer game from Czech indie studio Attu Games, inspired by Slavic folklore. The main feature of the project is that each character animation is hand-embroidered with thread on fabric by the developers, then scanned for use in the game.
The use of AI for game translation is a subject of debate among Ukrainian gamers and localizers. The main advantages of machine translation remain high speed and low cost of creation, but many players point to the insufficient quality of the text. In addition, the emergence of AI localizations may discourage enthusiasts from undertaking high-quality manual translation of games that already have formal machine localization.
According to the «KULI» catalog (Catalog of Ukrainian Game Localization), machine translation is currently used in only about 60 games out of a total database of about 4,000 localizations.
