According to the company’s blog, Copilot Chat is now available in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote. The AI works as a sidebar and adapts responses based on the document the user is working on.
The functionality allows you to quickly rewrite and shorten texts in Word, create slides and offer illustrations in PowerPoint, analyze tables and explain formulas in Excel. In Outlook, Copilot can generate a draft response or reduce long correspondence to a few paragraphs. In OneNote, a chatbot helps you quickly find the necessary materials and integrate content from other files.
Microsoft emphasizes that all Microsoft 365 enterprise subscribers will get these capabilities for free. However, the Microsoft 365 Copilot subscription, which costs $30 per month per user, will remain relevant: it opens up access to image generation, work with large files, and prioritizes the use of more powerful GPT-5 models even during peak hours.
The update demonstrates Microsoft’s commitment to making AI a standard in everyday work. The company is integrating basic tools without increasing the cost of subscriptions, while incentivizing business customers to upgrade to premium versions with advanced features. The next step is planned in the fall of 2025 — adding Copilot to products for finance, sales and customer service, which should reduce the cost of implementing AI for companies and accelerate their business processes.
