Lviv City Council, together with the IRON defense cluster, has opened applications for a grant program for young startups and teams working on technological solutions to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities. Winners will receive funding of up to 300,000 hryvnias.
According to the terms of the official announcement on the IRON Facebook page, both startups registered less than a year ago and individuals who are ready to register an individual entrepreneur or LLC in Lviv after winning can apply for the competition. Projects must have a clear defense technical focus: we are not talking about ideas, but rather about engineering or software developments that may have applied value for the military sphere.
Only teams with at least two members with experience in defense tech, engineering, or management are eligible to participate. Winners will be selected after a pitching session, and the fund will be distributed as follows:
1st place — 300 thousand UAH;
2nd place — 200 thousand UAH;
3rd place — 150 thousand UAH.
To apply, you must fill out the form on the website of the Lviv Administrative Services Center by July 20, and also attach a signed application for participation, a business development plan, a product description, and resumes of all participants in Ukrainian. Document templates are available at this link .
Coordinators promise informational support at all stages, and for new participants in the defense tech market, consulting assistance with document preparation and business registration is provided.
The initiative is part of a broader strategy for Lviv, which has positioned itself as a hub for military technology development in Ukraine over the past two years. Since the start of a full-scale incursion into the defense development sector, more than a thousand new companies have emerged.
We also recently wrote about Sigma Software Labs, Kyiv School of Economics (KSE), and Buntar Aerospace, which founded the Defence Builder accelerator and announced a mechanism for syndicated investments in the most promising Ukrainian defense tech startups.
