At the International Forum «Space for Ukraine», Deputy Minister of Defense Kateryna Chernogorenko announced the start of work of the «Space Policy Directorate».
The department will create a legislative framework, be a center for technical expertise, and become a coordinator between all industry participants: engineers, innovators, developers, state institutions, and the scientific community, the government official said .
Kateryna Chernogorenko emphasized why space is important for Ukraine, in particular:
The government announced changes in Ukraine’s military space on December 30, 2024, when the Ministry of Defense presented a plan for the development of space infrastructure with the participation of the General Staff, the State Space Agency of Ukraine, the Institute of Space Research, and the Office of Changes of the Ministry of Defense.
At that time, Kateryna Chernogorenko emphasized that the focus would be on technological leadership, the expansion and defense of space infrastructure, and the ability to conduct offensive operations. These key areas also coincide with the doctrines of the EU and NATO, where, as the government official noted, space is recognized as an operational domain on a par with land, sea, air, and cyberspace.
«For Ukraine, the integration of space technologies into military strategy is critically important. This will ensure effective intelligence, communications, and navigation, increasing the country’s defense capabilities,» the Deputy Minister of Defense added.
