The Ministry of Health launches a "national checkup": from January, Ukrainians aged 40 and over will receive UAH 2,000 for a health examination
From January 1, 2026, a free medical check-up program for people over the age of 40 will be launched in Ukraine. Each participant will be able to undergo a comprehensive health screening once, and the state will allocate 2,000 hryvnias in non-cash support for this, which can be spent only on this examination.
From January 1, 2026, a free medical check-up program for people over the age of 40 will be launched in Ukraine. Each participant will be able to undergo a comprehensive health screening once, and the state will allocate 2,000 hryvnias in non-cash support for this, which can be spent only on this examination.
As UNIAN reports, citing the press service of the Ministry of Health, 10 billion hryvnias have been allocated to finance the national screening program. After reaching the age of 40, a person will receive a notification in the «Diya» application exactly 30 days after their birthday with a proposal to undergo a check-up.
If the user agrees, 2000 UAH is automatically credited to the special «Diya.Kartka». These funds can only be used to pay for screening in medical institutions that have an agreement with the National Health Service of Ukraine. These can be state, municipal or private clinics, and you can sign up for any institution regardless of your place of residence or registration.
For those who do not use «Diya», an offline route is provided. A person can apply for a bank card, submit an application through the ASC and receive a notification about the funds being credited in about a week. The procedure is then the same: select a clinic from the list of the National Health Service, make an appointment and pay for the check-up with a card directly at the medical facility.
The examination will be conducted in a single visit lasting 60–90 minutes. The package includes a check-up with measurement of blood pressure, pulse rate, weight, height and waist circumference, calculation of body mass index, a survey on lifestyle and symptoms, as well as basic laboratory tests: lipid profile, glycated hemoglobin and other tests as indicated. A separate short mental health screening is conducted to assess the level of stress and anxiety.
After receiving the results, the doctor assesses the risks of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and other chronic conditions, formulates personal recommendations and, if necessary, issues referrals to specialists. Patients will be able to receive some medications free of charge or with a surcharge via e-prescription if increased risks or pre-existing diseases are identified.
The Ministry of Health emphasizes that the program is aimed at people who usually do not visit a doctor and do not control their blood pressure or sugar levels. After 40 years, the likelihood of developing chronic diseases increases sharply, and their late detection increases both state costs and the burden on the healthcare system. The National Checkup should shift the focus from the treatment of advanced conditions to prevention and early detection, using the digital infrastructure of «Diya» for mass patient engagement.
Previously, dev.ua wrote about how the Minister of Health Viktor Lyashko announced that citizens over the age of 40 will receive money on the «Diya» card for undergoing a preventive medical examination.
