Djinni allowed to enter data on deferral from mobilization for the convenience of recruiters. A “portal to hell” opened in the comments under the post
The IT job search service Djinni has provided an additional option for those liable for military service — from now on, you can indicate in your profile information about the presence of a deferment from mobilization.
The IT job search service Djinni has provided an additional option for those liable for military service — from now on, you can indicate in your profile information about the presence of a deferment from mobilization.
«Do you have a deferment from mobilization? Indicate it in your profile and recruiters will be able to find you in the search,» the new option was announced on the Djinni news channel.
It is worth noting that a lively discussion with a large number of critical comments regarding this innovation took place under this post. Most IT workers did not appreciate this «segregation» of candidates based on the presence/absence of a deferral.
«The platform is becoming a tool of indirect discrimination»: what IT people think
Contributor Oleksandr Linnyk gave at least several arguments why such an option cannot be considered acceptable.
In his opinion, this creates a two-class system: «safe for hiring» and «potentially mobilized», that is, it is discrimination. Thus, in his words, this further reduces the chances of people receiving an offer without delay, and the platform itself also becomes a tool of indirect discrimination based on conscription status.
«This is an edge case that can have very bad consequences. Most recruiters do not have a strict directive „only with a deferral“. They have a directive „close the vacancy“. Deferral is a risk factor. The feature turns a soft risk into a public label», — commented Oleksandr Linnyk.
A user with the nickname Stas, in turn, also suggested adding an option for those in the SZCH, and another contributor believes that the «wanted» status should also be added.
Some users, however, noted that this is just a «legitimization» of a common practice in the market, where candidates with a deferral receive an offer with a much higher probability.
Another user believes that with such success, the service could introduce a discriminatory option for women based on having children. «Haven’t given birth yet? We won’t hire you because you’ll go on maternity leave. Have given birth? We won’t hire you because there’s no point in working with children,» Victoria wrote.
«Ukrainian OIT 2026» — another user succinctly stated.
Recall that in February of this year, the Ministry of Defense expanded the list of deferrals, which are automatically extended, to seven more categories.
«I think at this rate, people will start asking about their own household mini-EW or anti-drone rifle in the garage.» Aitov residents complain that employers are rejecting candidates who do not have a deferment or reservation. Is this a new trend in the labor market?
