“We need to do our homework.” Fedorov told how the track of domestic chip production is progressing

This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov during a press briefing dedicated to the launch of the Brave1 grant program within the framework of EU4UA Defence Tech, answering questions from a dev.ua journalist.
«Next is the adoption of the chip act — it has already been developed. This is a law whose norms will be integrated with the European Union as part of the European integration process. This law has already been developed, we will register and adopt it in the near future,» said Mikhail Fedorov.
As for the R&D process, according to the Deputy Prime Minister, they have a corresponding project.
«We have a 'clean room' project that we want to launch next year. We also want to finance it through the Innovation Fund,» Fedorov clarified, adding that this will depend on the adopted Budget for next year, but he has positive expectations.
«It will depend on the adopted budget whether we launch it or not, but 80% — that we will launch it and everything will be fine. For now, we are moving in the direction that the funding for the Innovation Fund is laid down there,» he stated.
In addition to the above, Mikhail Fedorov also announced the existence of steps in the field of education that are aimed at the future production of chips.
«We have already launched training programs with KSE. There is also a joint training program with the Swiss University of Technology,» the government official added.
After all of the above is done, according to Fedorov, work will be conducted with partners on the potential opening of chip production plants in Ukraine, but for now, military risks stand in the way.
«And then, of course, it’s work with partners, with large companies, to open some factories in Ukraine. But we are realists, and we understand that now is a full-scale invasion and war, and this is a big investment. Therefore, we need to do our homework first — a „clean room“, a training program, the necessary legislation that will stimulate the development of this industry. This is the plan,» he shared with the participants of the event.
Recall that on January 14, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the Innovation Strategy until 2030 from the Ministry of Digital Affairs, according to which Ukraine seeks to establish its own chip production .
